Nigeria - JTF Kill 2 Civilians In Search Of Boko Haram In Maiduguri

The Polo G.R.A in Maiduguri, Borno State was shut down on Saturday for over 10 hours by men of the Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order in Borno to fish out terrorists among  the residents following the killing of some people on Friday night by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram.
A resident, Mallam Ishaku Gapani, told reporters that over 50 people were arrested from their houses when soldiers invaded the area.

“Among those killed was a teacher of Namu School in Maiduguri. I don’t know how many were killed in the house, but some residents said that five people were killed,” he told newsmen.

According to him, residents claimed they saw some whose movement looked suspicious in the area earlier but could not call the attention of security operatives to it because they later left the area.

“We were shocked to hear that some people came at night and killed people in their house. You know Polo area has been a disaster these past weeks as some residents no longer sleep in their home. A lot of people have left the state completely owing to rumours lately that the Boko Haram may attack during Christmas,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the Police  Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jibril, told newsmen that he was not aware of the cordoning of Polo G.R.A by men of the JTF, and the arrest made, but that the report with him was that gunmen attacked some people in their houses at Polo where two of the residents were killed.

Several calls to confirm the number of arrests by the JTF did not yield result as the spokesman, Lt Col. Sagir Musa, did not respond to his calls.
