Nigeria - Boko Haram Attack Police Station In Borno, Many Feared Dead

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have launched an attack on Gamboru Ngala Police Station in Borno State, but the heavily armed policemen on duty repelled the attack by killing four of the suspects while five policemen were reportedly injured.
This was the second time that the Police Station was being attacked.

The incident according to a reliable source who confirmed it to local news agency Vanguard said it occurred on Monday at 5:33pm, when the gunmen who came in three salon cars attempted to burn the station, using explosives and gun shots, but luck ran out on them as they were repelled.

Gamboru is more than 100 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital which had witnessed series of attacks, killings, bombings and kidnappings, as it shares boundary with Chad and CameroonRepublics.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin told Vanguard that the gunmen launched an attack on Gamboru Police station, insisting that it was a failed attack.

He said: “Yes we received a distress call that suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Monday, around 5pm to 6pm attempted an attack on Gamboru Police Station, but our men repelled the attack by killing four of the suspected terrorists”.

Jubrin also stated that during the gun duel, five policemen were injured and are currently responding to treatment.

He said normalcy have since been restored in the troubled area, as people are going about their normal businesses.

In a related development, some gunmen also shot and killed one person yesterday in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

Biu is about 187 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital. It will be noted that since the state government imposed a curfew and ban the use of motorcylces popularly known as Okada, the area has been enjoying relative peace in the last eight months.
