Ahead of the debate on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) by the National Assembly, the Kano state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso has joined other stakeholders from the North West zone to kick against the proposed bill which he argued will further impoverish the northern part of the country if passed into law.
Presenting the position of Kano state during the North West zonal public hearing organized by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on petroleum industry bill in Kaduna, Governor Kwankwaso said that the bill as proposed by the executive will have devastating consequence on the economies of non-oil producing states and seriously undermine the security of the greater part of the nation.
He stressed that section 116, 117 and 118 of the bill, and another section for the establishment of the national frontier exploration agency should be expunged from the bill for the interest of national unity, equity and fairness.
A former presidential adviser, Tanko Yakassai while condemning the proposed 10 percent host community fund suggested that all revenues accrued from oil should be shared equally across the regions rather than using it to enrich a section of the country.
