Nigeria - Army Kills 35 Boko Haram Terrorist In Raid Operation

The Nigerian army claimed it killed 35 Boko Haram terrorists in an operation carried out in Damaturu, main city of the north-eastern region of Yobe, between Sunday evening and Monday.
Boko Haram is a terrorist group linked to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. Actually, military operations in the state of Yobe have been going on for several days, allowing the army to arrest 169 alleged terrorists, dug out during combing operations in Damaturu and Potsikum, the region's second city.

The actions of the Nigerian army forced the local authorities to proclaim a 24-hour curfew in these two cities, for an indefinite amount of time.
In order to help the army troops deployed in the region of Yobe, the central government decided to send two more batallions, for a total of more than 1000 men.

Yobe, along with the neighbouring state of Borno, includes the main strongholds of Boko Haram, whose actions since the beginning of the year have left at least 600 people dead.

Mohammed Yusuf, founder of Boko Haram and killed in 2009 in Borno's police barracks, where he was taken immediately after being arrested, was himself a native of Yobe.
