Nigeria - Boko Haram Attack Police Force Vehicle In Northern Yobe

Suspected Members of  radical Islamic sect Boko Haram on Tuesday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, Nigeria, launched an attack on a police vehicle heading to the command headquarters.
Residents said they started hearing sounds of bombs and shootings around the Ajari area of Damaturu early Tuesday morning.

An official of Nigerian Joint Task force (JTF) in Yobe State, who confirmed the attack, said there was no casualty as the major road leading to the command headquarters has been condone off for fear of further attacks.

The official said the hoodlums lunched two unsuccessful bomb attacks before sporadic gun shots at the police vehicle.

He could not provide further details on the attack but said security operatives were making efforts to restore normalcy around the area.

Attacks on security vehicles in Damaturu, particularly around the Ajari ward being a strong hold of the insurgents has become a routine affair as the police must pass through the area to reach the force headquarters.

Boko Haram strikes usually target police, authority figures and churches in the mostly Muslim north, although there have been a handful of deadly attacks in and around Abuja, which is home to the president's villa, government ministries and foreign embassies.

There are several factions within Boko Haram spread across the north and some have loose ties with Islamist groups outside the country, including al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, security experts and Western diplomats say.
