Leading lights from sport and politics have held talks with Samuel Eto'o in a desperate bid to encourage a change of heart from the nation's star striker.
Eto'o, who plays his club football in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala, is refusing to play for the Indomitable Lions after serving an eight month ban for his part in a players' strike last year.
He turned his back on Cameroon after labelling the national side "amateurish and poorly organised".
The 31-year-old subsequently missed the 2-0 defeat in Cape Verde earlier this month in the first leg of the final qualifying round for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
He had a meeting on Monday with prime minister Philemon Yang, sports minister Adoum Garoua, Cameroon team manager Rigobert Song and coach Jean Paul Akono.
Members of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) were conspicuous by their absence.
Eto'o is the all-time leading scorer in Cup of Nations history and is believed to be prepared to return for the second leg against Cape Verde, which takes place next month.
Any decision to answer his country's call comes with conditions attached.
The BBC understands that the four-times African Player of the Year is demanding changes within Fecafoot immediately after the Cup of Nations qualifier on 14 October.
Cameroon are in danger of missing a second successive Cup of Nations following the first leg loss in Cape Verde.
Akono took over from Denis Lavagne earlier this month and has already stated that he wishes Eto'o to be back in the side.
