Nigeria - Gunmen Kill 4 As Ethnic Clashes Resume In Plateau

The relative peace in the troubled Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State was shattered on Thursday when some notorious gunmen stormed Bachit village and killed three people leaving others with severe injuries.
A retired soldier residing in Rim village in the same local government was also killed at his residence by some people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Christmas day while relaxing with his family.

Local reporters gathered that the gunmen, stormed Bachit village of Riyom local government in the early hours of Thursday and forced their ways into a premises where a man and his wife were shot at close range in their sleep.

An eye witness further disclosed that the marauders, while trying to escape after the dastardly act, ambushed a man in the same village and snuffed life out of him while other people that crossed their paths were also molested and shot, some of which were currently recieving treatment at the hospital.

A member of Plateau State House of Assembly, representing Riyom constituency, Honourable Daniel Dem, said the pattern of the killings was not different from the previous ones, adding that those behind the act were the same set of people that had been troubling the local government.

Honourable Dem, who appealed for calm, enjoined the people of the local government to be more vigilant and should not over-rely on the security men posted to the area, adding the people needed to brace up and not be carried away by the Christmas and New Year festive mood.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abuh Emmanuel,  said that he was yet to get the details of the attack and promised to get back.
