Sports - Frenchman Henri Michel Quits As Coach Of Kenya

Frenchman Henri Michel has quit as the coach of the Kenyan national team after less than four months in charge of the team.
In a statement released via the French Embassy to Kenya he explained: "I could not find an amicable agreement within the deadlines regarding my compliance with several provisions of the contract."

He added that he had already sent a letter to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) informing it of his resignation.

The statement did not elaborate on exactly which parts of his contracts Michel was unhappy with.

There had been speculation about his future after he decided not take charge of Kenya's tie again Burundi on Sunday in the African Nations Championship.

Instead James Nandwa coached the side that lost 1-0 in the first leg of the opening round of qualifying for the tournament for locally-based players.

Michel began coaching the Harambee Stars in August and oversaw just two friendly games against Tanzania and South Africa, which both ended in defeats.

FKF had been forced to defend its decision to appoint Michel in October with fans and media in Kenya criticising his previous record in Africa.

Michel further courted controversy by shunning the east and central African regional championship, the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, branding it a 'useless' tournament.

Nandwa took charge of the team at the Cecafa Senior Challenge, where Kenya finished as runners-up to hosts Uganda.
