Nigeria - Dana Air Resumes Flight Operations 7 Months After Fatal Crash

Exactly seven months after one of the aircraft in its fleet crashed in Lagos, Dana Air is back in business.
The airline was axed by the Federal Government two days after the June 3, 2012 crash which claimed the lives of all the 153 people on board who were flying from Abuja to Lagos.

Months later however, the Aviation Minister came out to disclose that Dana’s license was suspended in error and that the airline was free to commence operations.

The other clause was that the payment of compensations to the families of victims of the crash should be embarked on before the commencement of flights.

Local reporters observed that at the Lagos Airport on Thursday, Dana Air’s tickets to Abuja were on sale for N 14,400 which is far less than what the airline charged before the crash and also less than 50 % of what other airlines charge for flights on the same route.

Most of the Dana staff seen were happy to be back. None was however willing to speak on the reduction in air fare. “It is a decision of the Management”, one of them said.
