Ghana - 150 Suspected Criminals Arrested In Police Raids

One hundred and fifty (150) suspected criminals including some on the Police wanted list and eight females, have been arrested in a raid carried out in parts of the Kumasi Metropolis by the Police.
Three locally manufactured pistols, cartridges, machetes, 97 cellular phones, a laptop computer, iPad, three digital cameras and fake cedi notes were seized from them.

They were picked from their dens at the Asokore-Mampong Affordable House Area, Akorem, Asafo, Abrepo, Adukrom and around the Kumasi Airport.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Augustine Gyening, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander told a briefing that two shrines where the criminals have been visiting for spiritual fortification were also dismantled.

He underlined the resolve of the Police to go after the miscreants and bring them to justice.

They would also establish strong presence in areas known to have become safe haven for the criminals like the Asokore-Mampong Affordable House Area.

The Police in Ashanti have since the beginning of the year, gunned down 14 robbers and put on trial about 54 other criminals as they intensified the fight to reduce crime.

Meanwhile, 21-year old Mohammed Suleman has been nabbed in connection with the brazen robbery attack mounted by an armed gang numbering about 30 at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Junction.

The criminals imposed a reign on terror at about 1900 hours on Tuesday, firing sporadically to scare drivers and travellers using that road corridor.

They were reported to have arrived on motor bikes and a white un-registered vehicle. They managed to escape when the police arrived.

DCOP Gyening called for the public to be vigilant and provide the police with useful leads to arrest law breakers.
