The police in Yobe have confirmed the killing of four of its officers in the stateby members of Islamist sect Boko Haram, the News Agency of Nigeria has reported.
The four officers were killed in Babangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the State.
The gunmen, it was learnt, razed down the police station after killing the four Policemen, with the aid of some petrol bombs and other Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Reporters had gathered that the gunmen stormed the town on Wednesday at midnight in a convoy of more than 10 Toyota Hilux to launch the deadly attacks on the police post.
According to a resident of the area who did not want his name in print, the gunmen had wanted to attack Damaturu, the state capital, but because of the tight security in the state capital and its environs, the attack was then carried out at Tarmuwa, where they recorded success.
Confirming the incident, the Yobe state Commissioner of police, Mr. Sule Rufai said the attack was carried out at midnight (12pm) on wednesday, leaving four policeman dead and two others seriously wounded while exchanging fire with the dreaded group.
He stated that the injured policemen have been admitted at an undisclosed Hospital where they are responding to treatment.
The CP however said, normalcy had since returned to the troubled town, as security has been beefed up within and around the area, with serious effort towards apprehending the attackers.
