Nigeria's House of Representatives has approved a bill that would outlaw same-sex marriage.
The bill passed Thursday sets prison terms of up to 14 years for anyone who enters into a gay union.
It also outlaws gay organizations and the "public show of a same-sex amorous relationship."
Nigeria's Senate passed similar bans in 2011, but it was not immediately clear if the two bills are identical. If they are, the bill goes to President Goodluck Jonathan to sign into law.
Despite efforts by gay rights advocates, gays continue to face hostility and discrimination in Nigeria and many other African countries.
South Africa is the only country on the continent to legalize same-sex marriage.
