Pope Francis Performs An “Exorcism” On A Man In A Wheelchair

Pope Francis performed what appeared to be an exorcism Sunday afternoon on a young man in a wheelchair.
The pope laid his hands on the man’s head who then began to heave heavily with his mouth wide opened, only stopping as Francis moved on to his next “patient.”
Italian news sources asked actual exorcists for their input and most of them agreed that there was “no doubt” that Francis had either attempted to perform an exorcism or successfully performed one.
The Vatican, however, released a statement on Tuesday that said that Francis ”didn’t intend to perform any exorcism. But as he often does for the sick or suffering, he simply intended to pray for someone who was suffering who was presented to him.”
But some Catholic officials still insist that what they saw was what an exorcism is expected to look like. Reverend Giulio Maspero, a systematic theologian who has apparently witnessed and participated in over a dozen exorcisms, believes that Pope Francis did indeed remove a satanic force from the man’s body.
Maspero cited the placement of Francis’s hands on the man’s head as “the typical position” for an exorcist.
“When you witness something like that — for me it was shocking — I could feel the power of prayer,” he said of his past exorcism experiences.
Italian newspapers reported that the late Pope John Paul II performed an exorcism in 1982 in the exact same spot.
