As if we didn’t already have enough reasons to Praise Angie, the stunning actress and activist took a major stand for humanity again.
This time in front of the highest council of the United Nations.
According to Reuters, Jolie spoke out against war-zone rape, an overlooked issue that has possibly millions of victims.
The victims are not limited to women, but also include men and children. Jolie witnessed the horrible outcomes of these crimes while visiting refugee camps as an envoy.
What she told the council that she found was beyond disturbing:
”Young girls raped and impregnated before their bodies are able to carry a child, causing fistula.” “Boys held at gunpoint and forced to sexually assault their mothers and sisters.
Women raped with bottles, wood branches and knives to cause as much damage as possible. Toddlers and even babies dragged from their homes and violated,” among other things.
She insisted that justice will not be served unless the council makes sure this issue is a primary concern.
Jolie convinced the Security Council to come to a unanimous decision to create a resolution to ensure that these crimes are heavily penalized.
While this ruling will not resolve the issue completely, it is a significant step in the right direction to end sexual violence.
