Barely 24 hours after the meeting of the Nigeria Northern Governors Forum in Kaduna, what could have been a bloody explosion was averted in the state Friday when men of the anti-bomb squad of the state Police Command successfully detonated a bomb in the metropolis.
Besides, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Adenaike, said the bomb was concealed in a new computer set inside a carton meant to attract attention.
He explained that the bomb was discovered along Cameroun Road, close to Junction Road, a heavily populated area, but was successfully detonated without any casualty.
An eyewitness, Mallam Nasiru Suleiman, told reporters that the incident occurred around 4pm and led people at different directions for their lives.
The incident resulted to a heavy traffic jam along the popular Junction Road, with armed policemen and soldiers taking over the roads leading to the spot, while also denying motorists access to the roads, as traffic was diverted through Independence Way leading to Constitution Road.
As at the time of filing in this report, the whole vicinity was still cordoned off by men of Nigerian Army, the Police and Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps.
