Protests As Bayelsa Indigene Emerges Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria 2013

Amid a wave of protests which was drowned by jubilation from the 'home crowd,' a new Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN), 18-year-old, Anna  Ebiere Banner, was crowned at the banquet hall of the Bayelsa State Government House at the weekend.
Apparently dissatisfied with the decision of the panel of judges headed by accomplished businessman, Mr. Ini Okorie, which was at variance with a section of the audience who thought that the judges might have been influenced to favour the Bayelsa indegene, who also represented her home state, some of the audience faulted the decision.

Many in the audience were rooting for the 19-year-old, Miss Imo, Stephanie Okwu.

Produced by the Silverbird Group and sponsored by the Bayelsa State Government, MBGN 2013 which was the 26th edition was executed under the broad theme, 'The Year of the Goddess.'

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State used the opportunity to drive home the message of his government's commitment to diversify the economy of the state from dependence on petroleum products to a reliance on tourism and agriculture.

Anna who will represent Nigeria later in the 2013 edition of the Miss World pageant in Jakarta, Indonesia, was immediately appointed Governor Dickson's Special Assistant on Culture and Tourism.

The MBGN 2013 was described by the Minister for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, as a celebration of the spirituality of the beauty of the Nigerian woman.
