An 82-year-old Vietnamese man and his 41-year-old son were found living in a central Vietnam forest after they went missing over 40 years ago during the Vietnam War.
Times Live reports that the last time anyone saw Ho Van Thanh, he was running into the forest with his then-infant son Ho Van Lang in 1973 after a bomb exploded in his home and killed his two other children.
The two survived in the forest by growing vegetables, hunting animals and using tree bark for clothing and shelter. They have reportedly had no contact with the outside world since 1973.
Ho Van Lang can communicate using only the few Vietnamese words he knows, according to an official at Tay Tra commune in the Quang Ngai province.
The father and son were discovered when two people from a nearby village went into the forest to look for firewood and spotted the father and son’s treehouse.
The villagers reported their discovery to local authorities, who brought the two men out of the forest on Wednesday.
