Ex-Nigerian Militant Asari Dokubo Blasts Obasanjo For Failing To Support President's 2015 Ambition

Niger Delta activist, Asari Dokubo, on Politics Today hinted that the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has been a clog in the wheel of the progress of the Jonathan administration.
Dokubo said that Obasanjo has always said that the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan should not run for the 2015 election, that the former president backed the idea of a Northern politician be put in place as the flag bearer of the PDP come 2015, while the Rivers state governor, Chibuike Amaechi, who is now in the Baraje-led PDP faction be his running mate.

He said that Obasanjo has always been behind the recommendation of the Rivers state governor, Chibuike Amaechi for a higher office.

He explained further that, severally, Obasanjo has said this on pages of newspaper and on television that Jonathan should not run for the 2015 election.

The issues of not backing the President’s 2015 ambition arose when he was asked to react to the statement made by the former President of Nigerian and former BoT Chairman of the ruling party, last week when Obasanjo lamented on the non-progress in the resolution of the crisis, that may mar the chance of the party ahead of the 2015 elections, after a meeting with the leaders of the PDP factions, warning that everyone should tread carefully else the party would disintegrate.

On the crisis rocking the Rivers PDP, Dokubo took a swipe at the Governor of the state, labelling him a traitor and saying further that ‘a traitor will be treated as a traitor’ as he refuted the claim by the governor, that his life is in danger, saying that no one is stalking the governor, rather the move is just a ploy by the Rivers state governor to rally support for himself, as he has lost the love and favour he used to have in Rivers state, with the people he governs turning against him.

He stated further that the Rivers state governor was forced on Rivers state indigenes, because he didn’t win the mandate of the people, rather a court put him in place of the rightful candidate that the people of Rivers state voted to be in office.

He explained the reason why he left the former Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now the All Progressives Congress (APC) citing authorities in Lagos as he reason, because they wanted to lord over Rivers state chapter of the party, by wanting they call shots in the party on who to contest for what, he stated that he sees that as an insult to his person and the people of Rivers state.

He denied he left the because he didn’t get what he wanted as a card-carrying member of the party, when he was asked by the host, Seun Okinbaloye, if that was the reason why he left, he responded, saying he got what he wanted, as his wife represented his constituency for the State House of Representatives election under the flagship of the ACN. He confirmed however, that his love right now is for the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, even though he does not have any intention of running for any position under the party right now, but he is ready to back ‘His Own’ referring to the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, warning that the president will run for 2015, as he declared that it is ‘no retreat, no surrender’ and it is a ‘do or die’ affair come 2015.
