Oscar Pistorius Hires American Forensic Experts In Bid To Prove He Didn't Murder Girlfriend

Blade Runner Paralympian calls in CSI-style specialists to support his claim that he shot girllfriend Reeva Steenkamp by accident.
Oscar Pistorius has hired US forensic experts in a bid to prove his girlfriend’s death was a tragic accident.

The Blade Runner, 26, shot model Reeva Steenkamp, 29, through a bathroom door and claims he thought she was a burglar.

On Monday, the investigators combed the Pretoria mansion where model Reeva died on Valentine’s Day.

The Paralympian hopes the team unearth evidence supporting his defence when he goes on trial in March.

Their work will add to a £200,00 legal bill that has forced him to sell houses and shares in a racehorse.

His spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess said: “I can confirm that a team of forensic specialists from the United States is in the country at the moment working with Oscar’s defense team.

“We don’t want to go into any further details except that its very standard practice to work with specialists in various fields in preparation for any trial.”

Nicknamed the Blade Runner because of the prosthetic limbs he wears to race, Pistorius won six Paralympic gold medals and in 2012 became the first amputee runner to compete in an Olympic Games.

He was born without fibulas and had both legs amputated below the knee at 11 months old.

He has been keeping himself fit by training while on one million Rand (£60,000) bail. But his advisors say any return to competition is on hold pending the outcome of the murder trial.

Following Reeva’s shooting, a host of worldwide names including Nike and Oakley dropped Pistorius - a former poster boy for disabled athletics - from their advertising campaigns.
