The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Thursday held an emergency meeting with the members of the Police Management Team to devise strategies to contain the rising insecurity in the country.
The parley which held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, assessed the overall security situation in the country, particularly the incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes including kidnappings, trans-border banditry, and the proliferation of arms and ammunition.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the IG urged the zonal AIGs and the Command Commissioners of Police to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customised to suit their respective local challenges.
It stated that Abubakar charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and to engage in high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.
“The IG reminded the Police top brass of the immense trust and confidence reposed in them by the public and charged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experience to bear in the discharge of this onerous but statutory mandate of solving crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ridding the country of terror, amongst others,” the statement added.
The police boss reiterated that the country was passing through one of its most trying moments as a nation and therefore demanded of police officers, utmost loyalty and commitment to duty.
He assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to their well being, noting that the Security Forces will continually do their best towards eliminating all threats to internal security of the nation.
