Nigeria - 20 Killed As Ethnic Clashes Resume In Plateau State

No fewer than 20 people reportedly died when gunmen invaded Atakar village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Local newspaper Punch reports.
This brings to 55 the number of persons killed in the state in recent time.
The killings came as the state Governor Jonah Jang on Thursday asked the Defence Headquarters to monitor the activities of men of the Special Task Force.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner of Information, Abraham Yiljap, said Governor Jonah Jang had immediately directed the deployment of military and special police forces to take charge of situation and urged the people to remain calm.
He added that government was working hard to “prevent escalation and inspire confidence in the community.”
Owing to the attack, our reporters learnt that residents of the Mavo community have started relocating.
A source who spoke to this newspaper said he saw villagers moving out en mass with their property and their livestock.
