Villages in Atakar chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State were attacked by gunmen who stormed the area on motorcycles, at the weekend.
According to an eyewitness, “the gunmen rode through Zangar Atakar village on motorcycles with their faces veiled, while they opened fire, shooting at all directions. They were fearless and reckless.”
The eyewitness added that those contacted to confirm the identity of the gunmen said they could not authoritatively mention who they were, though they suspected them to be Fulani herdsmen.
He said he only confirmed 10 persons injured as a result of the gunshot, but could not say if anyone had died.
“I personally helped four people that were shot to the hospital today, but it’s possible that some of them that sustain severe injuries might not survive,” he said.
About five weeks ago, villages in Atakar chiefdom were attacked, leading to the death of about 19 people.
